Week 6: Thing 15

http://www.librarycrunch.com/

The above Blog by Michael Casey actually coined the term "Library 2.0." The tag had already been applied to Business and Web.

John Reimer provides that libraries can expand, expose, and extend metadata using Web 2.0 technologies and philosophies. Essentially, metadata is a term for data which describes data. Because of its descriptive role, metadata helps to bridge the semantic gap. In a post-modern context which describes artworks and novels, etc. as being authored as metatexts or metanarratives removed from any sense of authorship, we can view metadata as a subjective experience as well. Ultimately, it is the user that determines the meaning. Quite simply the previous statement may be used to describe post-modernity in general. We are all users.
